While surfing the internet, I found a wealth of wisdom that came from A. A. Milne via Winnie The Pooh. It seems this lovable bear has a big heart, understands love and also is very wise about life.
In celebration of Winnie The Pooh Day on January 18th, I have gathered a few of my most favorite quotes:
Love
If you live to be 100, I hope I live to be 100 minus 1 day, so I never have to live without you.
If there ever comes a day when we can't be together keep me in your heart, I'll stay there forever.
Promise me you'll never forget me because if I thought you would I'd never leave
Some people care too much, I think it's called love.
Wisdom
I used to believe in forever . . . but forever was too good to be true.
If the person you are talking to doesn't appear to be listening, be patient. It may simply be that he has a small piece of fluff in his ear.
It is more fun to talk with someone who doesn't use long, difficult words but rather short, easy words like "What about lunch?"
Just because an animal is large, it doesn't mean he doesn't want kindness; however big Tigger seems to be, remember that he wants as much kindness as Roo.
My spelling is Wobbly.
“Sometimes, if you stand on the bottom rail of a bridge and lean over to
watch the river slipping slowly away beneath you, you will suddenly know
everything there is to be known.”
People who don't think probably don't have Brains; rather, they have grey fluff that's blown into their heads by mistake.
Poetry and Hums aren't things which you get, they're things which get you. And all you can do is go where they can find you.
Rivers know this: there is no hurry. We shall get there some day.
Sometimes, if you stand on the bottom rail of a bridge and lean over to watch the river slipping slowly away beneath you, you will suddenly know everything there is to be known.
The hardest part is what to leave behind, ... It's time to let go!
They're funny things, Accidents. You never have them till you're having them.
"Well," said Pooh, "what I like best -- " and then he had to stop and think. Because although Eating Honey was a very good thing to do, there was a moment just before you began to eat it which was better than when you were, but he didn't know what it was called.
When late morning rolls around and you're feeling a bit out of sorts, don't worry; you're probably just a little eleven o'clockish.
When looking at your two paws, as soon as you have decided which of them is the right one, then you can be sure the other one is the left.
When you are a Bear of Very Little Brain, and Think of Things, you find sometimes that a Thing which seemed very Thingish inside you is quite different when it gets out into the open and has other people looking at it.
Wherever they go, and whatever happens to them on the way, in that enchanted place on the top of the forest, a little boy and his Bear will always be playing.
You can't stay in your corner of the Forest waiting for others to come to you. You have to go to them sometimes.

Top-level comments on this article: (4 total)You couldn't have picked a nicer more wise and comforting author to quote that A.A. Milne. Great job.Wow! That's the fastest response I have ever had for one of my articles. I found so much wisdom in these simple quotes, but was not that familiar with Milne.
Thanks, Christofer!
Winnie the Pooh reminds me of the quote "All I needed to know I learned in Kindergarten"....we really would enjoy a simple life more than all the sophisticated technology and anger/stress that we daily see. Great article.Isn't that so true. I just read in today's paper about a local women they found who had been missing since Jan 2nd. She was found today in a MacDonald's. It seemed she was sane, Ok and had not commited a crime...she just wanted to "get a break from life" by hanging out with homeless people. What does that tell you about our society?
Thanks, Elle
I am almost 51. My father read A.A. Milne poems and Pooh stories to me when I was a child. I still have my old books and often read the poems now.
As I write this, I am sipping coffee from my Tigger mug. To me, Tigger is pure, natural spirit without any bounds. Go Tigger!
Great article - thanks!I love to write about Fairy Tales and children's' stories because I think they have so much simplicity and truth. That's probably why you like to read the poems.
Thanks so much for your comment!
I love this! You know Fran, I didn't read Winnie the Pooh when I was a child, but reading your choices was like slipping into a world of such good sense, I just soaked it up! And so beautifully and gently funny, too. So I guess Winnie the Pooh is on my reading list. Thanks!Funny thing is, I didn't read Winnie the Pooh, either, but I have noted so much wisdom in this author's children's stories. In my mind, most children's stories have hidden meaning, but maybe that is just me and maybe I am just looking for hidden meaning. I am now studying (among other things) some of the stories and poems of winnie the pooh!
I am going to e-mail you later today.I agree with you about the wisdom, and I think this is extraordinarily (phew! hard word to type quickly!) insightful.
