What A Florida Christmas Was Like: No Snow, No Roaring Fire But Sunshine, 80 Degrees & Maybe A Swim

Plans to wear my new off-white boots went astray when I realized it would be 80 degrees today. Instead, I pulled out my red and black sundress with glittery gold dots from the closet. This is Florida and I would rather be comfortable than dress according to the season. Maybe next year I could wear boots.

Some of us complain about a Florida Christmas because either we are from up north somewhere and are used to snow falling or we feel at least, it should be a little coolish. Some of us have been known to turn on the fireplace and air conditioner at the same time to create atmosphere like we see on television.

We drive over to my daughters for Christmas Dinner. No, we are not going “over the river and through the woods;” we’re only going about 40 miles, but since the weather conditions are without ice or snow, we will be there in about an hour. I note that the cows are lazily lying in the sunshine, getting up only to graze. Later we could play with the children outdoors in our shorts or off have a family softball game. Of course, we would need something cold to drink because if the weatherman says 80 degrees, what he probably means is 85 and that doesn’t count the humidity.

Besides the weather conditions, a Florida Christmas is just as festive as I imagine a Christmas in a colder climate would be.

My daughter will have appetizer so that we don’t starve before 3:00 p. m., we’ll open presents, have a delicious dinner of course, there will be lots and lots of sunshine.

This year is different for me. I don’t long for atmosphere (like I see on television) such as snow, ice, and a roaring fire going in the fireplace. I don’t particularly care if I could wear my new -while boots. I am not going to complain (as I have in the past) if we get hot playing outside games or have to turn the air conditioner on. Instead of feeling envious about a “White Christmas, I am thoroughly enjoying it. In face, I think maybe Lifetime Movie Channel should make a Christmas movie about a beautiful sunshiny day in Florida that would depict a family playing football or softball and getting ready for a swim while munching on Christmas Cookies.

I don’t really know why I wrote this article. Maybe I just wanted you to know what a Florida Christmas is like. As for atmosphere, Christmas consisted of a magical atmosphere that weather conditions cannot cause nor prevent. It was love, family and most of all, our incredible gift of Jesus that we celebrated

Just my kind of Christmas dream, with a lot of family fun. Sounds like you had a great one! Ours was warmer than usual here in the mountains too. A/C with the Fireplace, interesting...lol

My grandchildren were in Florida for Christmas with the 'other grandparents' this year, and are on their way home today from Disney World. I followed the pics on Facebook, and laughed at their fun; they commented on the warm weather being great.

I'm about an hour from Disney...My favorite is Epcot - enjoy going in November...it's too hot in the summer and even early fall!

Yes, we did have so much fun. I wish it could last longer, as I am still in the holiday mood!
