What I want for Christmas is not tangible and cannot be purchased in a store and yet, for me, it is clearly the number one desire on my list. What I want for Christmas is simply to “not want” anything.
I want to grow spiritually and be content with any situation. I believe it was Paul (in the Bible) who said, “Whatsoever state I am in, I will be content.” I want to stop reaching for the next wish and bask in today’s blessings and reality. Too many years I have wished to be in a different place. In the past, I have wanted to be richer, healthier, younger, be a published writer, have a better career, have more time, have less stress, have a bigger house and travel more. These are just a few things that have caused me to not enjoy today’s full blessings and engage in my present life.
"Flow with whatever is happening and let your mind be free. Stay centered by accepting whatever you are doing. This is the ultimate."
Chuang Tzu,
I want to abolish the thought (completely) that I could control life. Things are going to happen, I can control a few things, such as striving to be loving, healthy or work toward goals, but I cannot control others and make things happen and when I try, it is just a disaster. So, I want to just “be.”
I have learned and progressed this past year, but I am still on the journey. Thank goodness, God isn’t finished with me yet.
By achieving this goal, I hope to become a better wife, mother, friend, citizen and most of all serve God and man the way God intended.
I don’t want to even think about controlling others or trying to change them. I will be much too busy trying to change myself, instead of others..
Leo Tolstoy said, "Everybody thinks of changing humanity, but nobody thinks of changing himself."
“If you're always in a hurry, always trying to get ahead of the other guy, or someone else's performance is what motivates you, then that person is in control of you.” Dr. Wayne W. Dyer
"No man is fit to command another that cannot command himself."
William Penn

The other day a man asked me what I thought was the best time of life. "Why," I answered without a thought, "now."

Top-level comments on this article: (3 total)Well I, for one, like you the way you are. And even though I don't know you on a very personal level, I can read between your lines I think. You are a grand lady, everyone you meet likes you instantly and all of us on WS do too. So change some if you must, but leave the gist of Fran the way she is. You have some really great quotes going there. Thanks, Heidi for your encouraging and kind words.
As I was reading this I thought, "Raymond Rock would be so proud of you." :) Your wish for Christmas is what I wish for myself and everyone this year. It should be so simple, but it isn't. Thank you for putting it into words. I hope you get all that you're wishing for Fran and more.I have thought of Raymond Rock lately, too. You are right, it isn't simple to just "be" but I am getting better at it.
Thanks Brianna!
