If I Could Live Anywhere In The World, I Would Stay Right Where I Am Right Now-Small Town America

If I could live anywhere in the world, I would stay where I am right now. My husband, Jim and I moved to this central Florida town from the West Coast of Florida 3 years ago. We are about; an hour from Disney World, just a few miles from Tampa and live in a subdivision that is like a resort. We live in a manufactured home but it doesn’t look like one. It is gorgeous, inside and out. The rolling, Scottish Golf Course is our back yard. This area of Florida is rolling, whereas the west coast was absolutely flat. Of course, both areas have advantages.

However, even though it is beautiful here, the main reason I would choose to live here is because of the people. There is something almost sacred about living in a small town. Where else could you have a complete stranger ask how you are while waiting in line at a local restaurant, The Golden Corral? By the time you got to the front of the line, you knew where the other couple came from and how long they have lived here. One day I was at Walmart. I was holding up a tee shirt and trying to match it with a pair of jeans, when I heard a voice saying, “That will work. It looks great together.”

Then there is the culture within the culture; my subdivision within the small town, which is even more interesting. There are so many activities and things to do; it is hard to work it in. We have two pools. One is a warm water pool and it feels so good in the winter. You could be warming your towel in the sauna room and then go in to warm up after stepping out of the pool. I belong to 2 book clubs and 2 Mah Jongg groups. It is almost a rite of passage to play Mah Jongg.

Again, though I don’t want to emphasize the material things here as much as to place importance on the thing that matters. Which is the heart of the people here. It feels kind of like belonging to a sorority (for me). I have never been in a sorority, so I am only guessing what it would feel like. Today, I am going to Sarasota with my sorority sisters out to lunch and for a special Mah Jongg day there.

I have written several articles about this little community where I now reside. I wrote about a woman who was determined to help me find my car: http://fran-larson.SearchWarp.com/swa592268-The-Smiley-Woman-Who-Would-Not-Leave-Me-Alone-Can-Smiles-Have-Any-Affect-On.htm. I also wrote about how we were lured into this beautiful community:

If I should ever win the Florida lottery, I would still want to live here.
