Dear Grandmother,

I just watched a documentary over the weekend that really opened my eyes about things! It was called "Forks over Knives" it's on Netflix. It's about an hour an a half long, very interesting, it tells you about your basic food that you think are healthy such as "cows milk" and meat products are causing cancer. I know your thinking "Well so do a lot of things" but this documentary is definitely work watching it really changes your perspective on things and, it goes through the lives of a few different people who suffered from diabetes, high blood pressure, arthritis, and even breast cancer and just by changing their diets, no medicine they cured all of these even the cancer!!!! The woman with the breast cancer had no chemotherapy or treatment what so ever she called up this doctor and changed her diet; she also suffered from arthritis and now has no pain. Many of these things we think have to be cured through medication or we think aren’t incurable because of what doctors say, but that’s not true! Watch this and let me know what you think! Change your life prevents cancer and feels better!

Love,

Megan :)

Megan, I no longer drink cows milk, after learning more about it. I don't think humans were meant to drink milk from an animal. I drink soymilk and it is really good! I will watch to see when the documentary will be reaired. Thanks for the heads up! Love, gm

Great I'm glad to hear my G-mom is Healthy, I wouldn't expect anything less! You know what tastes better than soymilk and has a thicker consistency than soymilk is "almond milk" they sell it at publix by the soymilk. They also make almond milk yogurt. Coconut milk is another good one they also make this awesome coconut milk ice-cream the brand is called "So Delicious" they even have ice cream sandwiches and stuff! Publix also sells it they have this chocolate peanut butter flavor that is awesome! I hope you and G-dad are doing well I miss you guys a lot!

We’re Not Calves, Should We Be Drinking Cow’s Milk?

Research links dairy products with arthritis. In one study on rabbits, scientist Richard Panush was able to PRODUCE inflamed joints in the animals by switching their water to milk. In another study, scientists observed more than a 50% reduction in the pain and swelling of arthritis when participants eliminated milk and dairy products from their diet.

Dairy products are pasteurized to kill harmful bacteria, but unfortunately, during this process vitamins, proteins and enzymes are destroyed. Since enzymes aid us in digestion, milk becomes harder to digest, which, in turn, puts a strain on our enzyme system.

Dairy products also are mucous-forming and could contribute to respiratory problems. such as hay fever and seasonal allergies.

When you drink dairy milk, think about all the things that are ingested into the cow, such as hormones, chicken manure, pesticides, antibiotics and cottonseed.

At Calcium may raise cancer risk . Research shows that higher intakes of both calcium and dairy products may increase a man's risk of prostate cancer by 30 to 50 percent.(iii) Plus, dairy consumption increases the body's level of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) -- a known cancer promoter.

Calcium has benefits that dairy doesn't . Calcium supplements, but not dairy products, may reduce the risk of colon cancer.(iv)

Where is the link to the video? (I don't have my glasses on but I can't find it) They told us in nursing that we are the most "under weaned" nation in the world. Check out soy milk though - causes thyroid problems and is made from all the leftovers from processing other soy products - sometimes you can't win!

Hi Fran.

I gave up cow's milk YEARS ago when I linked it to my migraine headaches. I also had to quit taking in butter, cream, cheese, yogurt, ice cream ... everything made from cow's milk. I did not replace it with anything and I haven't looked back.

There are only a couple of commercially made breakfast cereals that I can eat (I get them in the bulk section of our health food store) and I eat them dry as a treat (loads of sugar and calories). During the hot months, I eat rolled oats with a few raisins added for breakfast. I don't cook them and I don't put a liquid on them. In the cooler months, I cook steel cut oats for breakfast.

Bernd still uses milk products. I've been unable to get him to stop even though he is lactose intolerant. Dang those people for making lactase! :) He does use some soy milk but he won't give up his butter, cheese and yogurt. He's been having some trouble with arthritis in recent years. Maybe I could use that as an argument against continuing to use milk products.

Anyway, thanks for all the info!

Hugs,

Dianne

All animals wean their young. However, the milk industry tries very hard to discourage humans from weaning their young.

And you've got to wonder about that. Still, it would be sad to put all those people out of work.

Then there is that tribe in Africa (I can't remember the name) that subsist for the most part on cow's milk and cow's blood. Of course, it's not pasteurized and I'm sure they don't give their cattle antibiotics or growth hormones. Anyway, they seem to do well with that diet.
