A couple of days ago, I was out on the golf course and a beautiful dragonfly just hovered in space close to me. Dragonflies can do this. They can also move like a helicopter; backwards or sideways. They can mate while in the air. Their large eyeballs are filled with 30,000 individual eyes that allow them to have multi-image vision and super sensitive motion detection.

I have been preoccupied with dragonflies since I went to a funeral a couple of years ago. A beautiful young girl played a song with her flute. Prior to this song, she mentioned that a dragonfly had descended upon her the day the deceased had died. She thought it meant something - maybe the person that died was comforting her.

Many people believe some of the myths about dragonflies, but even if you don’t, you have to admit they are beautiful and very unusual. Because they are so interesting, I have found a few quotations about them that you may find fun and interesting:

This dragonfly came up to me. He was hovering right in front of my face, and I was really examining him, thinking, How does he see me? I became enlightened.

I never could have thought of it,

To have a little bug all lit

And made to go on wings.

- - - Elizabeth Madox Roberts "Firefly"

Deep in the sun-searched growths the dragonfly

Hangs like a blue thread loosened from the sky.

- - - Dante Gabriel Rossetti "Silent Noon"

You hail from Dream-land, Dragon-fly?

A stranger hither? So am I,

And (sooth to say) I wonder why

We either of us came!

- - - Agnes M.F.R. Darmesteter "To a Dragon-fly"

"In Native American animal medicine the dragonfly is of the dreamtime and the illusionary facade we accept as our physical reality. It also says that Dragonfly is the essence of the winds of change. If a dragonfly comes to you, they think it may be a message that it is time to break down the illusions you have held that restrict your actions or ideas"(Quote from Dianne Lehmann).

I, too, love dragonflies. A young woman introduced me to their mystery and magic when she gave me a necklace with a dragonfly pendant and told me it was a symbol of shedding past perceptions of self.

I have read about meanings of dragonflies, but this one that you speak of is probably the most meaningful and cherished of all.  Thank you so much for sharing this.  The best to you!
