When I was a child, I used to travel by train from Palm Harbor, Florida to Jacksonville, Florida every summer. I would travel alone. My Dad worked for The Atlantic Coast Line and he felt that it was safe. I am sure that he had alerted all of the conductors and other personnel that he knew to watch out for me. I know this because by Dad was a very cautious Dad and always protecting my sisters and I.
As we would approach the train station in Jacksonville, I can remember thinking, how in the world is my Aunt Lucille going to find me? There must be a million train tracks and so many gates
Aunt Lucille would always be at the right gate, waiting for me. This was always a puzzle to my child’s mind as to how she would know exactly where to wait for me.
It was always fun to visit Aunt Lucille. She had 3 daughters and a son. One daughter, Judy, was my age and we had such a great time together roller skating, going to Jacksonville Beach and playing Jacks but mostly just being together.
A few weeks ago, I heard that Judy’s husband, Buddy had passed away. That made me sad. And it prompted me to call her and tell her I was thinking about her.
She began to give me the details of his death. It seemed he had cancer. She knew their time together was limited, but he died sooner than she expected. She told me that in those last days, he was weak and felt really bad.
However, one day he got up and when she asked how he felt, he responded with “ I feel better. It’s so beautiful.”
A few minutes later, Judy found his lifeless body on their bed.
“I really believe that he saw a glimpse of heaven,” Judy explained.
Maybe after Buddy got a glimpse of heaven, he couldn’t wait to get there.
I pondered over that for days and would ask myself: Does God let some of us catch a glimpse of heaven?
I believe he does. There is nothing scientific and I do not have proof of such a thing, but I believe it. After all, do we have proof of the air we breathe? We just breathe. I can’t “see” the wind, but I see the result of the wind, as the tree limbs bend.
We are all promised heaven by just believing:
John 11:25-26 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?”
Some of us may get a glimpse of heaven before we die. If we caught a glimpse of it, we would probably want to make this transition right away. Jesus explains in this Bible verse that he is preparing a place for us. I
John 14:1-3 “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so I, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.

It is a beautiful hope that we live by. I have seen many people close to death, and many seem to have a curious inner comfort. Not sure why, but you do wonder. Wonderful article.Yes, it is a beautiful hope and gives comfort. I do believe in an afterlife, but as to what it would be like is only a guess. Thanks so much for your comment.
