I almost backed out because I could feel my computer calling me and the writing bug stinging me like crazy, but I am glad I didn’t back out. After all, it would be fun and interesting to go out with 4 girls and a guy, I thought. Especially these individuals who are fun-loving and share a common interest.

As to what kind of interest that acted as a common denominator that we would share, I will tell you what that was/is a little later. We were definitely on a mission. It was my first time. We will do this date-thing every week at exactly the same time.

When Kenny picked me up this morning in his luxurious van, the others were already comfortable and chatting. For this particular mission, one needs to wear their lightest clothes possible and one also needs to wear that same outfit for each outing. No, we were not preparing ourselves for a launch to the moon, but for me, it is/was a trial run. Today was the day I would decide if I wanted to make this a once-a-week date that could possibly enhance my life and be an adventure.

20 minutes later we arrived in Tampa and piled out of the van. I wondered if the meeting would be long and boring, while reminding myself that my purse contained my friend, The Nook.

It was anything but boring. It was motivating and inspiring. One lady, who was a nurse, reminded us that it was National Nurse’s Week. She also stated that if her son, (who had passed away) were alive, he would be saying, “ Mom, just do what your heart wants you to do.” Her eyes became misty, as she repeated the phrase again. "Do what your heart wants you to do.”

Now I will reveal where we were; we were at a Weight-Watcher’s meeting. Are you surprised? Now for the rest of my story: The nurse was explaining that when others try to sabotage and hinder you from losing weight, you should just do what your heart wants to do.

A man in the back row received a round of applause after it was announced that he had lost over 9 pounds this week. He explained that his wife was very supportive and cooked healthy meals.

Kenny lost over 4 pounds in a week's time and we all clapped for him. As several people stood up, one by one and told of their accomplishments this past week, they were given stickers and we all revered them.

I felt a kindred spirit, almost as if I were in a spirit-filled church service. Everyone was of one accord as he/she strived toward his or her goals to lose weight.

Even though I don’t have a big amount of weight to lose (maybe 10 or 15 pounds). It is a struggle to lose it alone. Maybe I need these meetings, I thought. Also, what popped into my mind was “no man is an island” No man should be an island when it comes to doing something difficult like losing weight.

On the way back home, we discussed how amazing Jennifer Hudson looked (after losing 80 pounds through Weight Watchers), We exchanged ideas, recipes, snack ideas and strategies when we don’t want to exercise. Sprinkle that with lots of laughter and jokes and the outcome is a positive solution to an age-old problem of losing weight and maintaining it.

I have a great site to tell you about. My friend, Nancy discovered: http://www.wikiweightwatcher.com/. This site lists restaurants and includes menus and how many points for each menu item. It is awesome but here is the best part. You can get a free app. Here is the description: “The WikiWeight app allows users to search the nutrition information and overall score for restaurant menu items and general food items.”

App Requirements: Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 3.0 or later
