Before President Obama appeared, it was announced that he is sensitive to the dark mood of our country at this time. Here are some of the main points (paraphrased) President Obama made.
President Obama began his speech by congratulating: Tonight I want to begin by congratulating the men and women of the 112th Congress, as well as John Boehner, new speaker of the house. We are also mindful of the empty chair in this chamber. We pray for our fellow colleague, Gabby Gifford. It is no secret that those of us here tonight have differences. Differences are a good thing. That is what set us apart as a nation.
We are poised for progress. Stock market has come roaring back. Americans have never measured progress by finances and economy alone. The future is ours to win, but to get there, we can’t stand still. The American dream has never been about standing pat. We need to out-educate and out-build the rest of the world. We have to make American the best place in the world to do business.
What America does better than anyone else is spark innovation and creativity. Innovation is how we make our living. Americans have reinvented ourselves for over 200 years.
President Obama spoke on how important education is in our country and once again praised our teachers.
We need to move information faster by Internet and high-speed railways. Other countries are ahead of us. We have to do better. We are the ones that began moving information quickly. I propose that we redouble those efforts.
I am asking the Democrats and Republicans to work together and get rid of the loopholes.
About the healthcare law, anything can be improved. I am not willing to go back to the days when Insurance coverage can be denied because of pre-existing conditions. Our healthcare law will make prescriptions cheaper.
“Let’s fix what needs fixing and move forward.”

I missed the speech last night, thanks for breaking it down some.
Interesting snippets Fran. From over here in sunny Spain, where right now it is very cold...brr America seems to be going through some pivitol moments in its evolution, how does it feel to you right now as an American?
You seem to have a very strong conservative (almost extreme) faction developing, though this I only catch from newspapers, are these people gaining in widespread popularity?
If they are, I just hope its manana, por la manana.....
