Yesterday, Oprah began her show by saying she had a big secret that she wanted to tell her fans. She also went on to say that she wanted to tell the public the story in her own way before the media could find out her secret and possibly lace it with untruths.

Oprah said, “I have a half sister.”

It sees that Oprah’s mother, Vernita Lee had given birth to a female child about 48 years ago that only one family member knew about. Oprah did not know because she went to live with her father at the age of 14.

Oprah’s half sister, Patricia was put up for adoption at a young age and bounced around foster homes until she was adopted at the age of 7. Patrica had known that she was the sister of Oprah since 2007 but didn’t want to reveal it to the public for fear of hurting Oprah. She tried several times to get in touch with Vernita Lee but she refused. Finally, she was able to get in touch with Oprah’s niece and the rest is history.

Oprah, Patricia and Oprah’s mother were all on the show.

Oprah seemed impressed that her half sister had held this secret so that Oprah would not be hurt. Also, Patricia did not sell the story to tabloids. When Oprah revealed that fact, she was misty-eyed because she has been “sold out” in the past.

Oprah stated that the reason her mother did not want to see Patricia was that she was ashamed for putting her out for adoption. Oprah told her mother that she didn’t to release these shameful feelings.

Oprah was teary and stated that finding her half sister was a “miracle of all miracles.”

I can only imagine how painful it was for Vernita Lee to keep that secret all these years. I would think she is feeling a huge relief about now

I saw the headline in the daily email I get telling me about Oprah's shows, and I meant to read it but forgot. I think it's moving and rather amazing that Oprah's sister didn't choose the sordid option. Kudos to her. I'm glad the story has ended well for all of them.

This is indeed sad but nice that she got to know finally. It is amazing Patricia didn't come out with it for the money as you said.
