I am not going to be a good sport about Michael Grimm winning over Jackie Evancho. It is obvious to
Jackie is a true prodigy, she started with a 2.5 octave range and now with training it has brought her closer to 3 octaves, her range currently is F3 to E6 this is extraordinary for someone at age ten. I have listened time and again to her music, with complete amazement. She was truly born for classical music (stars2come.com)
His grandparents raised Michael Grimm, who claims his grandparents made him go to church a lot, in Mississippi. At the age of 12, his grandmother would escort him to local bars so he could sing.
"She'd sit in the bars with her glass of soda and watch over me because she loved to listen to me sing, and she thought that was the way to get my career started," Grimm says.
Michael performed "You Can Leave Your Hat On" during semifinals while recovering from a dehydration related illness. Despite the illness, he managed to deliver a terrific performance that was once again praised by the judges and he advanced to the finals. After performing "Let's Stay Together" in the Top 10, he advanced to the Top 4. He went on to win the show despite not being original in any way as compared to the other three contestants.
It is my opinion that the winner, Michael Grimm was chosen because of his looks and he is quite popular with the girls. Yes, he does have talent but not like Jackie. When you think about it, this is only a popularity contest.
Having said all of that, I wish him success and I know that Jackie Evancho is already successful.

Las Vegas is not the place for a 10 year old. I am sure someone already snatched her up and she will be very successful not to mention that she is still young and has the opportunity to do it again in the future.
Ha, I hoped you'd written this! I like what you say about Jackie Evancho, Fran; that she's already successful. Operatic talent doesn't do very well on that show. Was it last year?- that a brilliant opera singer and a country singer (who couldn't even really keep a tune!) were in the finals. He won.I second Fran's question :)Grace
I've never seen that show Fran- I don't usually watch contest type shows- the statement you made in your article is the reason why. Remember back when they wouldn't let Elvis sing on theLouisiana Hayride" before he had a hit record? Can you imagine?! Guess he showed them didn't he!.......LOL Always- Ella

The first time I heard Jackie Evancho was 10 days ago because AGT is shown here on mbc a year later than in USA. I usually don't like reality shows because all my life I thought they were fixed BUT I watched AGT accidentlly when I was turning Tv channel, I listened to Jackie and I was shocked. What a wonderful performance and angelic voice! I felt myself in the sky and I continued to watch AGT only to watch her till I got disappointed by the chocking results. I love opera very much so I know what talent she has. All my friends here loved her very much and watched the show only to see her although they all hate opera and classics but they enjoyed the wonderful voice and the unique talent. Jackie Evancho made ordinary people love opera. If she lost to any other performance not to a singer one I could think that because they wanted a show but to lose to another singer ,whom I really think he is an ordinary singer and there are many like him everywhere but she is one in a billion, was very disappointing and surprising. This all talking about she is not suitable for Vegas show is ridiculous. This Vegas show is for one night and all top 10 go to it so she would have gone whether she went 1st or 2nd. and this program is called ( America's got talent ) so they should look for the better talent not for the show suitable for Vegas. If Vegas is not suitable for some talents so they should change either the prize or the name of the show or in this way the next Beethoven or Mozart may apply to the competetion and he will lose only because he is not a Vegas type. We decided not to ever watch reality again not to get this disappointment. In the end, Look at the sales. Jackie 2 albums sold over 1 million and 500 thousands and she got platinum certificate for her fisrt album and a Gold one for her second and gets on billboard charts since produced and till now. Michael Grimm only sold 22 thousand of his album.
