Do you have something that you would love to do but a little voice keeps telling you many reasons why you cannot/should not do it? Do you have friends or family members who try and sabotage your efforts to follow your dreams? If you were on your deathbed now, what would you regret not achieving? If you answered yes, to any of these questions, I challenge you to trust your heart and follow your dreams. I dare you to "dare to live."

In fact, there is a song with the title of "Dare to Live:"

Lyrics to Dare To Live (Vivere) :

Try looking at tomorrow not yesterday

And all the things you left behind

All those tender words you did not say

The gentle touch you couldn't find

In these days of nameless faces

There is no one truth but only pieces

My life is all I have to give

Dare to live until the very last

Dare to live forget about the past

Dare to live giving something of yourself to others

Even when it seems there's nothing more left to give

Ask yourself what is holding you back from your dreams? Are you sabotaging yourself?

Dr. Jason Plaks is a social psychologist at the University of Toronto. He researched self-sabotage and why some people can't handle success with Kristin Stecher, a research scientist at the University of Washington. They found that if people think their professional skills and abilities are fixed, they'll become anxious if they're successful. These researchers found that people with a fixed view of their abilities get disoriented when they succeed, and their performance then spirals downward. (From Suite101: How Fear of Success Works: Signs of Self-Sabotaging Your Relationships & Goals, & Why You Do It

One of my favorite writers, Erma Bombeck believed that women sabotage themselves in various ways and that leads to self-defeat, depression and despair.

"Great dreams…never even get out of the box," says Bombeck. "It takes an uncommon amount of guts to put your dreams on the line, to hold them up and say, ‘How good or how bad am I?' That's where courage comes in."

Now That You Are Inspired, Never Give Up

Never give up, when following your dreams. This frog fable will say it better than I can:

A frog was hopping around a farmyard, when it decided to investigate the barn. Being somewhat careless, and maybe a little too curious, he ended up falling into a pail half-filled with fresh milk.

As he swam about attempting to reach the top of the pail, he found that the sides of the pail were too high and steep to reach. He tried to stretch his back legs to push off the bottom of the pail but found it too deep. But this frog was determined not to give up, and he continued to struggle .He kicked and squirmed and kicked and squirmed, until at last, all his churning about in the milk had turned the milk into a big hunk of butter. The butter was now solid enough for him to climb onto and get out of the pail! "Never Give Up!"

Take A Risk: Just Do It – Whatever It Is

I am always doing that which I cannot do, in order that I may learn how to do it. ~Pablo Picasso

When in doubt, make a fool of yourself. There is a microscopically thin line between being brilliantly creative and acting like the most gigantic idiot on earth. So what the hell, leap. ~Cynthia Heimel, "Lower Manhattan Survival Tactics

It is an inspiring article Fran. But what if what you want to do isn't good for you and you know it? It would be nice to just do it, but sometimes we just can't.
