No one seems to know who proclaimed National Marshmallow Toasting Day on August 30th, but it sure sounds like fun to me. When was the last time you have indulged in this sweet, soft, sticky mass of heaven? August is also American Adventures Month, so why not combine these two August holidays and have some fun? Besides all of that, August is also Happiness Happens Month.
Since National Chocolate Chip Day was August 4th, you may want to try this recipe for S'Mores that includes chocolate chips. Unfortunately, I missed National S'Mores Day on August 10th. but not to worry. I have devised a way in to include these two holidays along with National Marshmallow Toasting Day by finding the following recipe:
Recipes
S'more Surprise:
- large marshmallows
- chocolate chips
- campfire skewer
- graham crackers – optional
First, make 2-4 holes into the sides of your large marshmallow with the campfire skewer (for adult use only, please be careful if these are hot or have been near the fire.) Now push one chocolate chip into each hole made previously by the skewer (again carefully if your skewers are hot). Then place your marshmallow all the way onto the campfire skewer, from top to bottom, avoiding the holes you just made. (makeandtakes.com)
Here is another recipe (without chocolate chips)
S'mores Recipe:
Ingredients:
- Chocolate candy bar
- Honey Graham Crackers
- Marshmallows
- Break off a square of Graham cracker
- Add a piece of Chocolate.
- Toast a big marshmallow over the campfire.
- Add the hot marshmallow.
- Top it with another graham Cracker.
- Eat , savor and enjoy!
The History of Marshmallow And What Ingredients They Are Made From
The marshmallow is a confection that, in its modern form, typically consists of sugar or corn syrup, water, gelatin that has been softened in hot water, dextrose, flavourings, and sometimes colouring, whipped to a spongy consistency. Some marshmallow recipes call for eggs. It seems likely that the marshmallow first came into being as a medicinal substance, since the mucilaginous extracts from the root of the marsh mallow plant, Althaea officinalis, were praised as a soothing remedy for sore throats. Concoctions of other parts of the marshmallow plant had medical uses as well. (wikipedia.com)
It Is Also Be Kind To Humankind Week
It so happens that August 25 thru August 31st i s Be Kind to Humankind Week, so why not invite your neighbors over for a marshmallow treat? That would be a kind thing to do and perhaps a way that others can remember you – that could be your legacy. Did I mention that August is also What Will Be Your Legacy Month?

Top-level comments on this article: (5 total)Great article Fran. Brought back many good memories growing up. Though now it would be seen as unhealthy and/or unsafe, my aunt whom my sister and I adored would give us a fork, some marshmallows and a box of matches. She showed us how, of course under her close supervision, to put the marshmallow on the fork and light it up with the match. It was heaven. Not a campfire but close enough. (:-)Blessings
I love somemores!
Gee thanks Fran. I have not had breakfast yet as my tummy is reminding me. Anything with chocolate sounds good to me so I guess I'll be heading to the store later for some supplies.Grace
This is such an original article, Fran, not just for the content, but for the way you've laid it out. It's interesting to read and looks fantastic. You've got all my creative molecules buzzing! By the way, what is an s'more? Is it an American thing?
Wait a minute...wasn't your last article about losing weight! There is some cosmic test of character here somewhere isn't there?
