Why did the sun come up that day?
It blazed and shone and danced it's rays.
Didn't it know that today is the time
When she'll be leaving us behind?
No more whirlwinds of parties and friends
And telephone conversations that never end.
She's all grown up and ready to leave
In herself she'll fully believe.
We give each other a last minute kiss
Knowing those late night talks we will miss.
I feel her body close to mine.
We cling to each other one last time.
We scarce could talk as she waved goodbye.
The years seemed like minutes, how the time did fly.
I get on my knees to ask for peace
And for help, my motherly ties to release.
The next morning when I saw the sunbeams dance.
I realized the world had just been enhanced.
A wonderful young spirit had been released to the world,
Like finding, unexpectedly, a beautiful rare pearl.
Lovely Fran. But you don't have to release your motherly ties- just put an extension in them- LOL- Always- Ella
I love this, Fran. Jean and I helped move our oldest son out last weekend, it has brought up emotions like I have never experienced. I keep saying that we've spent 20 years getting him ready for independence, but it is still a surprise when we don't hear him come home at night.
I've just listened to the audio version, Fran, you have such a gorgeous voice! Your poem was so beautiful to read, but hearing you speak it is something else. Wow :)
Good poem Fran, thanks for sharing
Beautiful poem read by a beautiful person not only on the outside but from her writings you can also see her beauty from within. Great job Fran.
I agree with Jennifer, really gorgeous voice, and a more gorgeous poem! I could feel the continuity, sadness and happiness by listening and reading to the beautiful rimes and words.
Beautiful, both the voice and the poem. As a mother, Fran, I feel how you feel when a daughter leaves home for whatsoever purpose but alas, it's time we let go a bit. Don't hold too tight for it's their lives that must they leave home. Cheers !!
Love the audio, Fran! I might have to try it sometime - I think there might be a typo (funny rather than fully) great piece!
Fran, you are an Earth Angel and your words are heavenly. I'm sure your daughters already feel this in their hearts.
WOW - I am dreading the day my daughter leaves home, but as she is 18 now I feel pushed out already. Your peom is very beautiful.
