So you see this gorgeous someone every day or maybe just once in a while, but you really want to ask him/her out on a date. You feel rejected before you even ask. You think how awful it would be if she/he turned me down. Then all the other doubts come pouring in and before you know it, you've lost your nerve.
Don't despair. You can be successful in asking for a date. If you just follow these 3 important steps, you will see that it is not as difficult as you once thought to ask for a date. Here are my 3 tips:

1. Before you ask for a date, talk to the person and get to know them.
When I was in high school, something surprising happened. Just as I got off the school bus, someone whom I had never talked to came up to me and asked if I would go to the prom with him. Although he seemed sincere, I had never even had a conversation with him, so I immediately said "no." Looking back, maybe if I had ever talked with him, I would have been more comfortable going on a date with him.
Maybe you could find out from a previous conversation what he/she likes to do. This is important. You don't want to ask her out for a football game, if she isn't even a sports fan. A good first date could be just a simple lunch.
Taking in a movie is not a great idea for the first date because you can't hold on a conversation in the theater (although some people do, but it is very annoying).
~ There is no golden rule of dating, except to make sure that it engages both of you; too many people go to a cinema for a first date and of course don't say a word, that's a bad thing! ~author unknown
3. Have a sense of humor.
We're not all stand-up comedians, but you can help the "asking for a date" atmosphere by a few witty remarks.
Here is a sample from the movie, Saved.
Patrick: Mary, you want to go out sometime?
Mary: What? Are you going to take me out on your "scooter"?
Patrick: Come on, I'm like, totally adorable, besides, it would drive Hilary Faye crazy.
Mary: I can't. I'm... not dating right now.
Patrick: What about tomorrow night? Will you be dating then?
You can come up with something even better. Just keep your sense of humor about the whole dating situation.
In conclusion, I would like to say that even if she says "no", she could change her mind. Here is a reminder of that fact (from the movie, Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency.
Hello, Michael? Yes, it is Susan. Susan Way. You said I should call you if I was free this evening and I said I'd rather be dead in a ditch, remember? Well, I suddenly discover that I am free, absolutely, completely and utterly free, and there is not a decent ditch for miles around. Make your move while you've got your chance is my advice to you. I'll be at the Tangiers Club in half an hour.
I hope I have inspired you to ask that special someone for a date today.
