If I Believed In Reincarnation, I Would Want To Come Back As A Dog: What A Life!

A few weeks ago, as I was returning from my daily walk, I saw a neighbor with his faithful dog, Sassy. We chatted a minute about how dogs are royally treated here at the Highlands. Moe revealed to me that if he could be reincarnated, he would love to come back as a dog that lived in the Highlands.

I started thinking...hmm.... It wouldn't be such a bad life. I envisioned myself as a dog; social interaction with other dogs, riding in the golf cart, people oohing and aaching over me, dinner right on time and my owner cleaning up my........well, you get the idea. Also, veterinarians treat dogs very kindly and on time. (Did you ever have to wait a couple of weeks to get an appointment with your vet?)

In my opinion, pets give far more to us than we could possibly give to them. They enhance our health. Their mere presence in our lives lowers our blood pressure and stress level according to scientific research. Research suggests that owning a dog or cat during a stressful event can have powerful and positive influences for the owner.

Also, it has been proven that dogs actually help some children learn to read. A program, Reading Education Assistant Dogs (READ) was started in Utah. These therapy dogs are successful because the child enjoys reading to a non-threatening listener.

I could go on and on about the joys of having a dog in your family. However, some people express it better than I. Here are my favorite dog quotes:

"They [dogs] never talk about themselves but listen to you while you talk about yourself, and keep up an appearance of being interested in the conversation." - Jerome K. Jerome

"My dog is worried about the economy because Alpo is up to 99 cents a can. That's almost $7.00 in dog money." - Joe Weinstein

"If you don't mind throwing tennis balls for eternity, I do have an opening in doggie heaven." - Frank and Ernest comic strip, an angel at St. Peter's gate, to a man seeking admittance

Guess I better go now. It's almost time for Jim and I to take our dog, Sunny for a ride in the golf cart. He loves to go up on the hill and watch the sunset. See you there sometimes?
