Here is a message from one of my readers:

Hi, Fran, I am Seirra and I need some advice. If your boyfriend asked you to marry him at 15 what would you say to him?....

Hi Seirra,

Just the fact that you are asking me about this tells me you have doubts about getting married.

You didn't mention if you and your boyfriend love each other or not. If your boyfriend loves you, he should be willing to wait until you are at least 18. At 15, you are not ready to get married. Your body has not finished developing and most of all your brain has not fully developed yet.

For many years, it was thought that brain development was set in early teen years, but now research shows that the brain is changing even into early 20's. The frontal lobes, the part of the brain responsible for reasoning and problem solving develop last. Therefore, important decisions such as marriage should not be made during teen years.

The other things to be concerned about are financial issues and education. In today's society, you need to have at least a high school diploma to earn money for living.

This should be a time in your life for you to have fun and discover yourself. You will never have this time again.

I urge you to discuss this matter with your parents. You may be surprised how helpful they will be. If this is not possible, please speak to a counselor at your school.

I hope this helps and sincerely wish for you a bright future.
