I sip my coffee and listen for a certain sound. It is there. I take a deep breath. My heart is overjoyed. My mind is waiting to tell me some secret or answer to a problem that I have stressed over. Then, thankfully the sound is there. It is the sound of silence. This silence brings all my creative thoughts, dreams and even worries to the forefront.
Perhaps my heart has been waiting since my quiet time yesterday. I always grab this silence with a vengeance, like a bear, knowing winter has come and feeling the urge to go into hibernation. This is the only way I know to find my true self, my true thoughts and perhaps what God is waiting to whisper in my ear. This is the best time of the day for me.
I take another sip of coffee, watching the birds or the squirrels scamper. I am here and present in this one moment. This is my delicious time.
The secret of health for both body and mind is to live in the present moment wisely and earnestly - Buddha
Having said how very wonderful this harmony is, I want all of my readers to experience this same heavenly feeling and so my first and most important tip is:
1. Have a quiet time every morning alone.
No matter what lengths you have to go for this experience, it will be worth it. If you cannot get up before others in your household, you may consider taking a walk or maybe later on in the morning, you can have an opportunity to be alone. Having this time alone is so vital. Hear your own voice. Hear your own thoughts. How do you know who you really are and what you really think, if you don't ever listen?
2. When you are with people, do not allow their voices to be louder than yours.
Of course I don't mean that literally. I mean when you are with other people, don't let what they say sway you into a thought pattern or opinion that you know isn't you. I am sure all of us at some time have had that happen. For example, two women go shopping together and one gets home and realizes that she really shouldn't have bought that outfit after all because it was the other woman's idea. She was swayed by the other woman's opinion. This could apply to politics, religion, etc.
3. Write down your truest beliefs, affirmations and goals
You may surprise yourself. You may be thinking to yourself, I didn't know I felt so strongly about ________
We make lists for groceries, things to do, things to see and almost anything else, so why not make a list of what you believe, your affirmations and your goals? Make this list with 3 separate columns. Put the list where you can see it every day. You may want to add or subtract, as time passes and you get to know yourself better. My list is constantly changing, as I age. For example, it is not so important now that I ever have a publishing company say they will publish my book . It's just important to me that I write.
Your goals are very important. It you don't know where you are heading, you feel lost. Think seriously about this: What is your goal?
After all, it was Yogi Berra who said, if you don't know where you are going, you'll end up someplace else.
In conclusion, I challenge each of you to have your own "delicious time." Once you begin this precious time with yourself and God, your days will not seem quite right or "on track" when you miss this time.
Your life will make more sense, you will have more of a sense of directions and secrets will be whispered in your ear, when you enjoy your "delicious time."
This idea to write this article was whispered to me during my "delicious time" this morning.

Top-level comments on this article: (4 total)That's excellent advice Fran. I get lots of 'delicious' time since I sleep such few hours each night. My delicious time is usually followed with more coffee and some SearchWarp time. Today I was fortunate enough to read your article and it made me appreciate this quiet time all the more. Thanks! Have a great day.
Fran,I so enjoyed this. My quiet time is 5 am before the house is awake. I love the solace and the silence. Sometimes, I will sit outside in the dark with my coffee, listening to the sounds of nature, enjoying the cold of winter or the warmth of summer, the smell of rain that has ended or the feel of light snowflakes on my face. I get many of my ideas at that hour (as well as in the shower).Thank you
This is definitely worth 5 stars. I have done this before but never enough and when I take that quiet time my life seems to fall in place easily and I am not "swayed." Great piece.
Yep! Your right on the button. a day without quiet time is a day of chasing your tail, for me anyway. I have to have that time no matter what the day has in store it just revitalizes me. If I only sleep 3 or 4 hrs I always make time for it, my first cup of coffee and getting my body ready to take on the day.Great article, another 5 star.
