This is Valerie's story. When I taught exercise class, a few years ago, I met Valerie. As I began to know her better, we would share little snatches of her life. One day, she casually showed be this beautiful ring and glowingly stated that she was engaged to be married.

It all started around 1987 or 1988 when Valerie and Ralph were both stockbrokers for the same firm. Valerie remembers it as the time during the "big stock market crash". They worked for five years together and dated for about a year. In spite of their feelings for each other, both had family pressures at that time. Both of their mothers were very ill and needed their care. Valerie and Ralph put their own lives on hold and went their separate ways to take care of family members.

Then, ten years later, Valerie found herself attending a "relationship class" at church. During this particular class, she was thinking and praying about companionship. Her mind drifted to Ralph and how nice their relationship had been ten years ago. (While all this was taking place, Ralph was looking through a telephone book and found Valerie's name). At that moment, he realized she was not married because her name had not changed.) When Valerie got home from church, the telephone rang and lo and behold, it was Ralph! She said, " he shocked me so much, I didn't know what to say. I was speechless and tried not to show too much excitement." All of this took place one week before Valentine's Day. Valerie and Ralph went out on Valentine's Day and kept seeing each other week after week.

Valerie and Ralph were married in November of 2002 in a castle at Gatlinburg, Tennessee. This castle is nestled in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. Friends and her father surrounded her. Valerie's father cried when he saw his "princess" daughter walk down the aisle of the CASTLE ON THE GREEN. Now, if this isn't a fairy tale, I don't know what is.

Valerie attributes her "fairy tale" to an answer to prayer. Both Valerie and Ralph had been praying for a companion. God answered that prayer.
