Tiger Woods was selected as the athlete of the decade in a vote by U.S. sports editors. Even though according to a recent Gallup Poll his popularity dropped from 85 percent down to a low of 33 percent after the scandal (The 85 percent approval rating was in 2005, the last time the poll was taken.) However, the Sports Community was able to separate popularity from outstanding Golf.

This Athlete of the Decade Title was well deserved since Tiger won 64 times around the world, including 12 majors, and hoisted a trophy on every continent golf is played. He lost only one time with the lead going into the final round. His 56 PGA Tour victories in one incomparable decade were more than anyone except four of golf's greatest players won in their careers. For Tiger Woods perhaps it is the best of times, it is the worst of times. Obviously, the best of times being his chosen title has Athlete of the Decade; The worst of times being his marriage possibly to solving and public knowledge of his secret life.

Meanwhile, in Charlotte North Carolina lies Cincinnati Bengals receiver Chris Henry, who is battling for his life he fell out of the back of a pickup truck Wednesday after a dispute with his fiance.

Chris Henry was found in the road 8 miles north of Charlotte apparently with life-threatening injuries according to Charlotte police.

Police said a dispute began at a home just before noon and Henry jumped into the bed of the pickup truck as his fiancee was driving away from the residence.

"The domestic situation continued between the operator and Mr. Henry," the police said in a statement. "At some point while she was driving, Mr. Henry came out of the back of the vehicle."

In an interview with The Cincinnati Enquirer in October, Henry credited his fiance, Loleini Tonga for helping him straighten out his life, saying, "She's been a big help. She's been right here with me and going through things and helping out on my side. We have the kids, and she has my back with everything I've needed."

From the beginning, his career has been derailed by behavior problems.

Chris Henry repeatedly got in trouble at West Virginia, where former Mountaineers coach Rich Rodriguez told him that he was an embarrassment to himself and the program.

Both of these two athletes Tiger Woods and Chris Henry have put their career in jeopardy by behavior that is questionable to the public. Also, both have been in recent disputes with their wife/fiance respectively. Perhaps there is something about celebrity that encourages bad behavior violence and disputes with family members. Sadly that appears to be true.

We sincerely hope that Tiger Woods will win the fight to get his family back and equally well., we hope that Chris Henry wins the battle of his life.

May the New Year offer more peace and hope for these two athletes.
