When by youngest daughter was a child, probably around 6 years old, we bought her a lite-brite set. It is like an easel that you plug in an outlet. Then you put these teeny little colored lights in the holes of this easel and make pictures. Patterns are provided. The finished product is a beautiful lighted up picture and it is even prettier if you turn off all the other lights.

Hasbro Toys has come out with a free virtual lite-brite set. It is free! You just click on the site and start putting your brite lights in the virtual holes. Come on, be a kid again and just do it! There is no pattern, so you just make up your own picture.

It could also be a teaching moment for your child. She/He would be learning about colors and also hand control and dexterity. as they place the colorful rounds into the holes.

You and your child could make a Christmas Card or Get Well Card for a friend or relative. It would teach your child about sharing and doing good deeds for others. Maybe you are baking Christmas cookies and have a few minutes in between batches. (You could make my gumdrop cookies; I wrote an article about them Betty's Christmas Gumdrop Cookies That Are Perfect For Your Tree-Trimming Party!) When you don't want to stray too far away from your cookies baking in the oven, why not do a lite-brite picture .

Just go for it. Click on http://www.curbly.com/diy-maven/posts/6004-friday-distraction-virtual-lite-brite

Merry Christmas!

Yah, and I'd burn all my cookies! Sounds like fun though.
