I can remember sitting in a dentist chair having a procedure done a few years ago. It seems the dentist would always ask me a question when my mouth was wide open and he was drilling or probing around, looking for cavities.

"Do you believe in bad luck?"

Of course I couldn't answer. I just kind of looked at him. It didn't matter because it was a one-way conversation.

"Well, I don't believe in bad luck or good luck. I think a person makes their own luck."

Since that day, I have often thought of that statement and have come to realize that it is so true. How can I think my destiny will rest on the coattails of "luck?" I don't think it is "luck" that I have a wonderful life. I made good choices and I believe that God has/had a plan for my life. No, everything has not been rosy. Every prayer has not been answered the way I would like it to be. Yes, I wish I didn't have heartache. I do know, however that luck has nothing to do with where I am in my life right now.

If you are going through a horrible time right now, it is not "bad luck" that has brought you to this point. It is life.

You can make your own luck!

Whatever you are pursing, make a plan, work hard, and be diligent.

Here is my favorite frog story that makes my point more clearly:

Frog in a Milk Pail

A frog was hopping around a farmyard, when it decided to investigate the barn. Being somewhat careless, and maybe a little too curious, he ended up falling into a pail half-filled with fresh milk.

As he swam about attempting to reach the top of the pail, he found that the sides of the pail were too high and steep to reach.

He tried to stretch his back legs to push off the bottom of the pail but found it too deep.

But this frog was determined not to give up, and he continued to struggle.

He kicked and squirmed and kicked and squirmed, until at last, all his churning about in the milk had turned the milk into a big hunk of butter.

The butter was now solid enough for him to climb onto and get out of the pail!

"Never Give Up!"

Here are some of my favorite quotes:

Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy. Norman Vincent Peal

Experience shows that success is due less to ability than to zeal. The winner is he who gives himself to his work, body and soul. Charles Buxton

Here are my favorite "luck" quotes:

" Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.

Seneca quotes (Roman philosopher, mid-1st century AD)

"Nothing happens by chance, my friend... No such thing as luck. A meaning behind every little thing, and such a meaning behind this. Part for you, part for me, may not see it all real clear right now, but we will, before long." Richard Bach quotes ( American Writer , author of 'Jonathan Livingston Seagull', b. 1936 )
