Shay and Daniel looked awesome on the Jay Leno Show November 10th . I know they are both still on their weight loss journey but they both looked so radiant, happy and healthy. Not only did they look good but also apparently they have discovered the secrets and joys of shedding extra pounds.
Shay revealed she used to watch The Biggest Loser on television while she heartily ate her treats. She would specifically watch Daniel, as he pared off the pounds. Eventually, Daniel inspired her. It seemed so appropriate that they should be on the Jay Leno show together.
First of all, could you really have an opportunity to eat healthy food if you were homeless? She had to eat food that was given to her, which, I am sure was a lot of starches and very few vegetables.
Also, being neglected by parents plus homelessness would definitely cause enough frustration to overeat, as illustrated by galadarling.com:
Eating disorders blossom into being because of lack - lack of love, lack of self-esteem, lack of support, lack of control, lack of direction. An eating disorder is simply a convenient place to channel your frustration. Some girls eat to fill themselves up because they feel unloved, others starve themselves in an attempt to take the reins of a world in which they feel they have no impact.
What about Daniel Wright?
Daniel targets poor self-esteem as a culprit for being overweight. During one of his interviews, he was asked this question:
Why is obesity in children such an epidemic?
Daniel Wright : I think it's a lot of things. With kids because you've got self-image problems, you've got self-confidence issues, you've got all kinds of things. I think no matter what your upbringing, you make the choice to eat what you eat and you make the choice to not move. I definitely sympathize with them because there are a lot of struggles that come with it. Food is almost becoming an addiction.
There you have it. The secret that unlocked both Daniel and Shay from their emotional eating was (for the first time) their belief in themselves. It was their belief that they were worthy, that they were OK people. Then and only then could they change their life-long eating habits .
Michael Jordan said: You have to expect things of yourself before you can do them.
People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in their true beauty is revealed only if there is light from within. ~Elisabeth Kbler-Ross
