The Week After Christmas and All Through My Home, I Felt So All Alone

Twas the week after Christmas and all through my home, Not a creature was stirring; I felt so all alone.
My size 10 dress was hung in the closet with care
In hopes that the extra pounds soon would not be there.
Sunny was nestled and warm in his bed
While visions of dropped turkey danced in his head.
Had just settled down with Sunny for a long winter's nap
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window, I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.
The moon showed the beauty of no new fallen snow
For in Florida it will never reach zero or below.
Well, what to my wondering eyes should appear
But a bill collector that said, "your account is arrears."
Wait a minute; I just remembered a letter that to me was sent
Something about in January, I would have to pay more rent.
More rapid than Eagles, the bills came and came
I sighed and shouted and called them by name.
Now, Visa, now Master Card, Amazon.com and Bealls
And taxes and power bills that swells and swells.
To the top of my stack that is getting so tall,
Now dash away, dash away, dash away all.
I turned on the TV in hopes of being entertained
But it seemed to reveal so much sadness, to my disdain.
There were shootings and robberies and war and hate;
What lies ahead for us all? What will be our New Year's fate?
And then in a twinkling, a small babe appeared
I was shaking and my heart was so full of fear.
He looked at me straight forward and said, "Do Not Fear"
I knew in just a moment that it must be the New Year.
He looked strong and courageous and so full of hope
That I decided to welcome him and not to just mope.
He left me surprises and gifts on my chair
And told me these blessings to always share.
He left some advice as he began to disappear
"Think love, hope and laughter and do not think fear
For yesterday is gone and tomorrow only a dream;
So live and enjoy just today, that is life's true theme."
And so my wish for you all, my dear Reader Friends:"
Happy New Year to you, a message my heart sends!

Just delightful, Fran...but no mention of Cody?? Happy New Year to you and yours--we missed you at the clubhouse!
When I "found" this poem- I recognized it as perfect for the feelings we all may have in the days following the high excitement and stress-related zanniness of too much holiday celebration. Thanks for providing this Fran- you write from the human touchstone.... Always- Ella-P.S.- If I could get away with it, I'd probably have one of your articles on Ella's Attic every other day.......because of what they say.......but I'll get around to most of them- sooner or later...LOL
Very cute. Even if it was from last year!!!!
Mrs Anderson would be SO proud of you! I like your rhyming better than Shakespeare any day!
I second the hope for something coming available on Feb 9th (hopefully on Sprint). My original Pre is limping along as well, but I so love WebOS that I can't think of going with one of those 'other' OS systems. I hope I don't have to make that choice soon. Anxiously waiting!
